We are happy to share two successful MA theses submitted by CU students in the Spring 2024.

Have you ever wondered what our students work on during their particicpation in our program? Then you should definetely visit our Student Work. In this section you can find the full range of works and projects our students have done and do within our program - ranging from collective group research works within seminars, over group fireldwork projects in the tracks Urbanism from the South and Urbanism Across Geographies, to individual works such as the Master Thesis.

This year's MA Highlights that we would like to share with you are the works of our former students Juliane Vocke and Jan Weber who recently graduated:

Juliane Vocke’s "Embodied Holligen: Unpacking Socio-Spatial Dynamics and Identity" delves into the socio-spatial integration of new housing cooperatives in Bern's Holligen neighborhood. The thesis traces how these developments respond to local demands for affordable housing and interact with the existing urban fabric, while highlighting the role of public spaces and social class dynamics in shaping community identity.

Jan Weber’s  "Hospitality contra exclusion? Institutionalising Solidarity in Zurich in the Shadow of Humanitarianism and Border Violence" explores Zurich's development as a "Solidarity City" in response to the European border and migration regime, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of how borders function as dynamic systems that both include and exclude, while critiquing simplified approaches that can reinforce state power structures.
