Dear City Collaborators,

We at the Urban Studies unit of the University of Basel are excited to welcome you to the fourth edition of the annual City Collaboratory meeting on Friday, 25 September 2026.

The day’s programme will reinvigorate the Collaboratory’s mission to make visible the diversity of urban studies scholarship across Swiss institutions. This year’s meeting will bring into conversation urban scholars whose disciplinary specialisation does not usually bring them into sustained conversation. 

It mainly consists of two plenary sessions: the first is led by Rita Kesselring entitled,“Planetary Repairs: Extractivism, Ecology, and Restitutive Research”. The second, entitled “from platform capitalism to techno-authoritarianism”, will be led by Jon Schubert and Nancy Odendaal.

After lunch, there will be two city tours led by members of the Kantons- und Stadtentwicklung Basel-Stadt. The walks will focus on ongoing urban re-generation initiative run by Basel’s planning department. The day will close in the usual spirit of networking and getting to know each other in a relaxed setting at a catered apero.
