Amanda Haas Abd el Halim (she/they) is a researcher and artist-designer in Urban Studies at the University of Basel. Supported by a one-year G3S Startup Grant in 2026, their research explores ecologies of care, examining how local initiatives care for, maintain, and imagine their urban environments and green spaces. Drawing on urban studies, social anthropology, and feminist approaches, Amanda uses visual and embodied ethnography to study everyday practices of collective engagement and transformation in the context of climate change.
Amanda holds a BA in Visual Communication from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and an MA in Critical Urbanisms from the University of Basel. Before entering academia, they worked as a designer in cultural and social contexts, focusing on visual identities, publications, and books.
