The Materiality of Art Fairs: Art Basel

Critical Urbanisms + AA Visiting School Basel
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the third edition of "The Materiality of Art Fairs: Art Basel," a summer school co-organized by Critical Urbanisms and the Visiting School program of the Architectural Association in London.
Taking place 17–27 June 2025, in parallel with Art Basel, the 10-day program takes a critical look at the urbanisms of world fairs, biennials, and triennials, and the roles of artists, architects, urbanists, curators, and institutions involved in them. The program features a research seminar, guest lectures, guided tours of Art Basel and Vitra, fieldwork, public events, and a final exhibition of the student works across three venues in Basel forming an alternative Art Basel Parcours.
An international and interdisciplinary group of tutors will lead students to consolidate research from the current and past editions into an exhibition across three spaces in Basel: Domushaus, Im Schaufenster, and kHaus Public Plaza (Kaserne). Students will work in groups, each led by a tutor or group of tutors, with specific briefs and assigned spaces.
CU students interested to join the program should send an email to fabrizio.furiassi@clutterunibas.ch with a CV and one-page motivation letter outlining your academic background and interest in the program by 15 May 2025. In your letter, please clearly indicate if you are currently enrolled at CU.
Note: There are 10 places reserved for CU students assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Admitted students are required to pay a nominal registration fee to cover administrative costs via the AA website. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance from the AA and will additionally earn 3 KP for their MA in Critical Urbanisms via a learning contract with Fabrizio Furiassi (Program Head and Assessor).
For more information on the program, please visit the AA website and Instagram page, or send an email to aavsbasel2025@cluttergmail.com.
